Perhaps every collector has at some time wondered about the problem of cleaning coins. This is mainly because they wanted to improve the quality of the coin in their collection at least a little bit. The reasons are various: a nice coin in the collection, an effort to identify a heavily corroded coin, but more often a better looking and therefore more saleable coin.
Many collectors and laymen alike then try to clean and improve the coins according to various often bizarre recipes. These attempts usually do not turn out well and often cause irreparable damage, so I advise not to clean coins if possible! When the need arises, it is absolutely necessary to contact a specialist who can precisely determine the cleaning method so as not to damage the object.
I would like to introduce you to an expert with whom our company cooperates: Milan Černý
Since 2009, when I bought a metal detector, I gradually started to find various coins. This has led me to the point where I don't actually know what coins they are. Due to the fact that I was very interested in this hobby, I started to devote myself to it and already in 2010 I longed for knowledge, so the self-study of coins began. As time went by, and the finds piled up, I realized that I didn't really want to have just a bunch of unidentified coins at home, and not cleaned in any way. That inspired me to start cleaning and classifying coins.
Since 2011, I have gradually moved from (would-be proven methods), to accepted restoration and conservation methods. At the same time, since 2011 I have been an external collaborator of the Regional Museum - Prague East, Brandýs nad Labem, 2012 - of the Regional Museum Mělník. Since 2019 I have been an external collaborator of the Municipal Museum in Čelákovice.
Apart from coins, I specialize in sacramentals and crosses and have been doing this on a professional level since November 13, 2014. Apart from describing and identifying, I am engaged in cleaning and preserving objects using both recognized methods and my own methods, which have gradually proven themselves in my long practice of about 10 years.
